About Home Girls

Well, hey there!

Home Girls Boutique - Jacksonville, Illinois - Julie Rowe

My name is Julie Rowe, owner and shop girl here at Home Girls Boutique! Home Girls has been located in downtown Jacksonville since 2017, but the vision and passion of Home Girls started well before then. As a little girl, I LOVED playing “Shop” in my sister’s room while she was at school, pricing various items and trinkets. It drove her nuts, but my mom knew how happy it made me and it kept me busy, so she never dissuaded it!

I’ve also always enjoyed re-decorating and rearranging furniture and home accessories to freshen up my space. It’s one way I get to use my creative energy; however, my most favorite creative outlet is making jewelry.

I’ve been a jewelry maker for 27 years! I’ve always felt the need to make and craft, and jewelry allows me to play around and create items that not only I get to wear and enjoy, but more than anything that other people can wear and use to express themselves in their own fashion. And I’ve always loved the idea of having my own shop where I could sell the jewelry I make.

Thinking back on the play Shops I created as a little girl, it seems Fashion Merchandising has always been a passion of mine. When I found out it was a major, I went to Florida State University to hone my skills and learn all I could under its umbrella. I’ve had a career in retail ever since and have been able to grow my knowledge and put my abilities to the test.

One day, a friend and I had decided to try our hands at selling our handcrafted wares out of our homes. I suggested we call our side hustle “Home Girls” because I felt it was all encompassing and expressed the vibe we were wanting to share. We rotated having sales out of our garage and my dining room, and eventually I set up a permanent shop in my basement. But I got to a point where I was ready for more.

Eventually, after my most recent retail job managing Famous Footwear for ten years, I decided I was ready to take my experience and create my dream boutique. So, in the fall of 2017, Home Girls Boutique became my new full-time job and, ever since I’ve taken the leap and become a small business owner, I’ve loved every minute of it!

I’ve always strived to make sure Home Girls is a place where people can come and feel like they’re in the comfort of their own home, or at least comfortable while at my place! It’s a welcoming atmosphere with comfy, down-to-earth vibes, and we sure do love all things homey!

Along with our regular inventory, which includes clothing, soap, jewelry, candles, purses and bags, as well as all kinds of home accessories, we also have many locally handmade goods on our shelves, such as Serious Lip Balm Products, Agape 316 Soap, One Knotty Maker Jewelry, KAS Crystal Designs, and Jewelry and Candles made by shop girl, Julie Rowe!

I love nothing more than seeing small businesses booming around our small town and pretty much the whole country right now, and I especially enjoy being a part of supporting our community of small businesses! It’s so exciting and so rewarding, and really drives my passion for taking care of my Home!

I hope to always be able to create a beautiful boutique space and handmade items to sell in my little shop downtown -- it’s the whole reason I started Home Girls! And I especially appreciate everyone that has been a loyal supporter of this little shop. Thank you so much for helping us grow!

Much Love, Julie Rowe
